ABOUT THE BAND

Koronus is a progressive metal band that creates unique culturally influenced story-based concept albums that some have described as “watching a movie by listening to an album”. Their music combines bone-crushing djenty riffs, catchy feel-good melodic choruses, and carefully crafted dreamy soundscapes all woven together to create albums that aren’t just music but a work of art.The group consists of two members from the band Embracing the Enemy: Kyle McGinley (Vocals/Guitar/Drums) and Vishnu Vijayan (Bass). Shortly after creating Embracing the Enemy’s debut album “The Anomaly”, McGinley and Vijayan realized they had a combined interest in writing more progressive and experimental songs. Their taste in metal would inspire the creation of a side project between the two that focused on a story-oriented album in which each song would have a central theme. This led to the planning and writing of the story of their debut concept album "Eye of the Monolith" loosely based on ancient Mayan culture. The story was about the exploration of an ancient monolith by the Mayan people and the evils they encountered within. Nearing the finishing touches of the album, the band came up with the name “Koronus”. This name is a reference to the Greek god of time “Kronos”. This name encapsulates the control and power over different time periods of time that different groups hold over one another. This theme and struggle for power are imminent in the different concept albums written by the band.

Returning with a vengeance after two years, their new album "Sentinel" expands the Koronus discography to venture into ancient samurai culture in the time of ancient Japan. McGinley and Vijayan currently live in two different locations in the United States but are working together online to finish the release of their new album.
